Corner Brook BJJ

Western Newfoundland's Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu Academy

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the art of controlling and submitting your opponent, in that order, using the least amount of attributes i.e. strength, explosion, size, and youth, and the maximum amount of technique, learned knowledge, leverage, cunningness, and guile.

Slowly, but surely, submission grappling has taken root on the shores of Newfoundland's Western coast. Our small community is dedicated to learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe, but rigorous, environment that takes pride in teaching techniques that overcome size and strength. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) was designed to allow smaller individuals to overcome their larger counterparts, and we see that tradition continue in every class.

Among other things,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is widely considered to be the single most effective martial art and form of self-defence that a person can learn. As we are focused on grappling as opposed to striking, we are able to  practice against live, resisting, opponents every class, This practice ensures that what we learn in class works against someone intent on fighting back against our best efforts.

This proving ground teaches us to be calm in situations of fatigue and stress, to make the right decision and apply what we have learned under the duress that comes with a real situation.
